Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry Group

Our group activities are targeted towards understanding physical and chemical processes in the atmosphere, seizing the opportunity provided by the complex and vulnerable Mediterranean environment. It is our mission to promote world-class atmospheric research in the area by shedding light on problems of compelling scientific interest and increasing social relevance. We are active in the fields of aerosol research, air quality, solar radiation and atmospheric chemistry, approached from a synergistic view angle that combines multiple experimental, observational and theoretical platforms.

The group consists of highly motivated scientists within the field of Atmospheric Sciences, accompanied by a number of Post-doctoral researchers, Ph.D. and M.Sc. students as well as other research and technical staff, synthesizing and combining the infrastructure, methodological tools and experience from two Institutes under the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development (IERSD) and the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS).

We are involved in numerous research projects that have brought extensive collaboration with several academic and research bodies in Greece and abroad, and we are gradually gaining strong links with local entrepreneurship in an attempt to expose our younger members to practical research, recognizing the value of an interdisciplinary approach to learning and practicing.
