Our group activities are targeted towards understanding physical and chemical processes in the atmosphere as well as landscape ecological processes, seizing the opportunity provided by the complex and vulnerable Mediterranean environment. It is our mission to promote world-class atmospheric and environmental research in the field by shedding light on problems of compelling scientific interest and increasing social relevance. We are active in the fields of atmospheric composition, air quality, Earth system processes and climate, solar energy, environment and health, Earth observation, landscape ecology, policy and urban perspectives.

We approach these fields from a synergistic viewpoint that combines multiple observational, laboratory and computational platforms, while we are also continuously adjusting to and incorporating new technologies and concepts such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Citizen Science and more.

The group consists of highly motivated scientists within the broader field of Environmental and Atmospheric Sciences, accompanied by a number of Post-doctoral researchers, Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, as well as other research and technical staff. Physicists, chemists, geologists, biologists, environmentalists, environmental engineers, environmental policy scientists, socio-economists and geo-informatics experts are bringing together their experience and assets to realize world class research and services within the strategic priorities set by the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development (IERSD) of the  National Observatory of Athens (NOA) and by listening to the needs of our changing planet and the trends of international communities.

We are involved in numerous research projects that have required extensive collaboration with several academic and research bodies in Greece and abroad, and have steadily established strong links with the private sector and administrative authorities, exposing our younger members to applied research and real world decision making.
